Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program

CPNP aims to reduce the incidence of unhealthy birth weights, improve the health of both infant and mother and to encourage breastfeeding among mothers who have children 0-18 months.

Services Include:

  • Infant Food Supplementation
  • Nutrition Counseling
  • Program Support Services
  • Education and Promotion of Breastfeeding
  • Referral Service to Outside and Band Services
  • Counseling on Health and Lifestyle Issues
  • Workshops and Scheduled Events
  • Program has been developed utilizing local resources to encourage infants and mothers to increase the benefits of breast-feeding. Home visits and social gatherings has been used as the main forum for promotion and education. Public promotion is conducted using the local television station during during public access slots. Support services include but are not limited to home visits, information sessions, and referrals to band based services. This program has been in effect for a few years and has has a high rate of participation by community members.
